In the latest fortnightly fuel price review, the Government of Pakistan has decided to keep petrol prices unchanged while implementing a significant increase in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD). This revision will be effective from February 1, 2026, for the next 15 days, as announced in an official notification.

What Changed in Fuel Prices?

According to the Petroleum Division’s notification, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been raised by Rs. 11.30 per litre, while petrol prices remain the same for this period. Diesel prices are often adjusted in line with international oil market fluctuations and recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Updated Fuel Prices (Effective February 1, 2026)

  • Petrol: Price remains unchanged (current rate continues)

  • High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Increased by Rs. 11.30/litre to Rs. 268.38/litre from the previous rate of Rs. 257.08/litre

Why Diesel Is More Expensive Now

The increase was attributed to movements in the global crude oil markets and revised cost structures. Diesel is widely used in transport, agriculture, and industry, so adjustments in its price can have a wider economic impact compared to petrol.

Impact on Transport and Daily Life

A rise in diesel rates typically affects:

  • Transport costs (trucks, buses, logistics)

  • Agricultural activities (tractors and irrigation systems)

  • Goods and food prices due to higher freight charges

Meanwhile, keeping petrol prices stable offers some relief to private vehicle owners and daily commuters.

Keeping petrol prices unchanged while hiking diesel rates reflects the government’s attempt to balance consumer relief with market realities. Diesel price increases often have broad implications for transport and food prices, whereas petrol stability helps everyday motorists. Fuel price reviews like this are conducted every fortnight based on international oil trends and regulatory recommendations.
